Is ‘Roaming’ Becoming The New Standard Of Today’s Workforce?

Roaming is a model that allows employees to work where they work best, from many different types of locations.

Such as:

  • Home office
  • Coffee shop
  • Serviced Office or Business Centre
  • Members Club
  • Anywhere with a solid Wi-Fi connection

Roaming makes it easy to accommodate today’s workforce, which might include a mix of:

  • full & part employees
  • freelancers
  • agency workers

Typically a modern office consists of one desk for one person which needs space which costs money.  The roaming model can be used as a strategy to reduce costs or for improving productivity which is always a good thing.

It is well known that by putting employees in close proximity with people from other teams and departments or companies encourages the spread of:

  • ideas
  • collaboration
  • communication

Roaming allows your employees to work where they want to work.

We asked  Ian Stafford Founder/Chairman of The Sporting Club about the facilities available to the ‘roaming professional’ at The Sporting Club.

“One of the great Sporting Club USPs are its various club lounges around the country, from four in London to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, the North East and Leeds which, post-Covid, has become even more relevant for those working more remotely but still requiring a replacement office without having to pay too much for it. Sporting Club members have full use of all our venues to work, meet, relax and network and, in the case of our Leeds club in Park Square, this includes complimentary food and beverage all day.”

Things to consider when your employees are roaming:

  • Employee Wellbeing
  • Employee Productivity
  • Cyber Security
  • Privacy (GDPR)

With roaming anyone can work almost anywhere but as a manager you need to be sure that security is not overlooked as employees get access to files and documents they need on the network.

Everyone is an individual and different people work well in different spaces. By offering your employees access to work spaces in different locations you can be sure you are doing your best to accommodate the individual.

As a manager you must think about how the different employees will need to work. Some might just need a desk for half-an-hour while they pick-up emails or make a phone call. Others might need a space where they can sit and work in a more focused manner.  Some might need areas where they can hold ad-hoc meetings, or work with colleagues on more collaborative projects. Your employees will need all of these things at different times so it’s important to identify key activities and select the environments and facilities to match.

Different types of work requires different types of spaces so make sure you know what to look for when selecting serviced office spaces or business centre facilities.

We recommend sourcing a local service provider with modern facilities and improved cyber security upgrades to protect users.
